Tags & Applications - Big Game Eligibility

Hunters often inquire about waiting periods after having drawn and/or harvested a big game animal in Nevada. The following table helps summarize the eligibility requirements. Please reference the Big Game Seasons and Application Regulations brochure for more information. Big Game Eligibility Table by Species

If a hunter draws a big game tag for: Hunt # (and) Harvests... (or) Does Not Harvest...
Bighorn Sheep 3000, 3151, 3251, 8000, 8151, 8251, 9151, 9251 The client may not apply the next 10 open seasons. The client may not apply the next 10 open seasons.

If the tag was received prior to 2009 the client cannot apply the next five open seasons from when it was received.
Bull Elk 4000, 4151, 4251, 4156, 4256, 4161, 4261 The client may not apply the next 10 open seasons. The client may not apply the next 5 open seasons.
Antlerless Elk 4111, 4176, 4181 The client may apply the next open season. The client may apply the next open season.
Antelope horns longer than ears 2000, 2151, 2251, 2161, 2261, 2171 The client may not apply the next 5 open seasons. The client may apply the next open season.
Antelope horns shorter than ears 2181 The client may apply the next open season. The client may apply the next open season.
Mountain Goat 7151, 7251 The hunter may not apply for the next 10 open seasons . The hunter may not apply for the next 10 open seasons .
For species or hunts not listed, there is no eligibility restriction.
These eligibility rules DO NOT apply to Emergency Hunts, Special Depredation Hunts & Auction tags.

Antelope, Elk, Mountain Goat and Bighorn Sheep
An eligible person may apply for ONE TYPE OF HUNT CATEGORY FOR ANTELOPE, ONE TYPE OF HUNT CATEGORY FOR ELK, A MOUNTAIN GOAT and ANY SUBSPECIES OF BIGHORN SHEEP on the same application. The applicant shall submit only one application for the same species or subspecies per drawing. A person may not obtain more than one antelope or elk tag during a hunting season, except for antelope landowner damage compensation tags or elk incentive hunt tags.

Mule Deer
An eligible person may apply for ONLY ONE TYPE OF HUNT CATEGORY FOR MULE DEER during any drawing and only one application may be submitted per drawing. A person may not obtain more than one deer tag during a hunting season, except for depredation, emergency depredation hunts and deer landowner damage compensation tags.

Big Game Age Requirements
An application to obtain a tag that is issued by random selection may be submitted by a person under 12 years age if he/she will attain the age of 12 years before the beginning of every season to which the application pertains.

Junior Hunts
Junior Hunts are limited to those who have a hunting or combination license and will attain his/her 12th birthday before the first day of each hunting season to which the application relates and will not attain his/her 17th birthday until after the last day of each hunting season to which his/her application relates.

 

Nevada License Requirements

Anyone born after January 1, 1960 is required to provide proof of Hunter Education, in order to purchase a Nevada hunting license. Proof of Hunter Education is an official Hunter Education card or certificate, from any state or province, with the Hunter Education number and state or provincial logo or seal, OR a previous year’s hunting license with the Hunter Education number or mark.
