COMMISSION MEETING SCHEDULED FOR RENO
THIS WEEKEND
The Nevada Department of Wildlife’s (NDOW) Reno office is
breaking out the extra chairs for what has historically been the
most attended Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioner’s meeting
of the year. On Saturday, the Board will be setting the tag quotas
for the upcoming big game hunt season.
The tag quota setting meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 9 at
8:30 a.m. and Saturday, May 10 at 8 a.m., in the conference room
of the NDOW Headquarters located at 1100 Valley Road.
Big game biologist Mike Cox will present a report on big game herd
status, harvest analysis and quota development on Friday afternoon,
and the Commission will then establish regulations for the numbers
of tags to be issued for mule deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, bighorn
sheep and mountain goats for the 2008-09 hunting seasons.
Proposed changes to regulations for mooring/anchoring vessels at
Lake Tahoe, possible revision of boundaries of certain management
areas, expanding the list of acts that constitute reckless or negligent
operation of a vessel, as well as updates on the Clark County Shooting
Park and the quagga mussel are all on the agenda for the upcoming
meeting.
Members of the public who would like to address the Commission
on a topic not on the agenda may do so during the public comment
period near the beginning of each meeting. People wishing to address
the commission about those items should complete a speaker’s
card and present it to the recording secretary.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and
manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, and boating
safety. NDOW's wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily
funded by sportsmen's license and conservation fees and a federal
surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife and habitat
conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combination
license. For more information, visit www.ndow.org.
